Why Blake Jarwin will be the Dallas Cowboys best surprise

There’s a ton of noise about the Dallas Cowboys wideouts, but what about Blake Jarwin?

Anywhere you look, there is either an article or a video about the Dallas Cowboys‘ wide receivers. I’m not saying they don’t deserve that amount of attention, but often left out of the conversation is their tight end, Blake Jarwin. With lethal threats at the other offensive positions, Jarwin will emerge as the Cowboys’ best surprise.

Cowboys fans know who Jarwin is, but they may not think he’s as good as he is. I can’t blame them since he has been sitting in the passenger seat next to the future Hall of Famer, Jason Witten.

When you watch him on tape or even look at his numbers, you should get excited. The former wide receiver has good speed for a tight end, runs routes like a wide receiver, and can catch like one too. While he may need some work as a blocker, it is his job as a receiver that will torture defenses.

Over the past two seasons, he caught 58 passes for 672 yards and three touchdowns. The undrafted free agent also caught 75.3 percent of passes thrown his way and averages 11.6 yards per reception. Those aren’t top-notch numbers, but they are good for a young backup tight end.

Support from the Dallas Cowboys’ other offensive weapons

When Dallas drafted wide receiver CeeDee Lamb in the first round of the 2020 draft, talks of the team having the best group of receivers popped up. This was after wideouts Michael Gallup and Amari Cooper both eclipsed 1,000 receiving yards in 2019.

Along with them is a two-time rushing yard leader in Ezekiel Elliott. He is looked at as one of, if not the best running back in the NFL.

When playing against an offense with an elite weapon, some teams like to focus on taking out that one player. Against Dallas, they have two proven elite weapons and two very good wide receivers. You can’t focus on taking out four players.

That’s where Blake Jarwin shows up with a bang. With so much attention being given to his teammates, Jarwin should be given plenty of opportunities. This can be through playing one-on-one with lower-end linebackers/defensive backs or getting open space against zone coverage.

When combining Jarwin’s skill and the attention being given to other players, you will get a big season out of the 26-year-old. Opposing defenses have no clue how much of a threat the tight end is, and that should get Cowboys fans excited.

Such a talented group of players means that the defense will have far too many people to keep their eyes on. Do you want to stack the box? Pick which top talent you want to throw to. Do you want to drop back? Enjoy Zeke eating up some yards.

Lamb, Cooper, Gallup, and Zeke are all proven threats that people expect to play well. Jarwin will be the best surprise because if you are not a Cowboys fan, you probably don’t know him. That, and there is too much going right for him.
