The Dallas Cowboys have no excuses in this coming season

The Dallas Cowboys have restocked their defensive front, while only adding to the offense. That’s why this season, there can be no excuses.

The Dallas Cowboys have done it again. This time though, with Everson Griffen.

While reports tend to indicate that the Vikings and the Seahawks were vying hard for his services, Jerry Jones and the Dallas Cowboys pulled a Jerry Jones and the Dallas Cowboys.

While everyone was expecting Griffen to zig towards either Seattle or back to Minnesota, he zagged straight to Dallas after apparently being wooed by the Cowboys. He’s reportedly agreed to a one-year deal worth $6 million.

With Griffen in tow though, that gives the Cowboys a front seven unit that consists of Griffen, Dontari Poe, Gerald McCoy, Tank Lawrence, Aldon Smith, Leighton Vander Esch, Jaylon Smith, and Sean Lee, just to list the most notable names.

When you also add in the fact that they are still keen on bringing Randy Gregory back, it becomes even more daunting. Not a lock to make the team but with his credentials and special set of skills, the guy they drafted out of Utah in the college sack artist formerly known as Bradley Anae, the Cowboys should be more than well equipped along that front seven unit to get it done.

With that being said though, there is this. The Dallas Cowboys will have no excuses if they don’t at least win a playoff game this year, while I would dare say that winning two is a fair expectation with this group. Let me explain.

The offense was among the most productive in the league last year, although playing from behind a ton. They’ve only added to that artillery chest with the addition of CeeDee Lamb, so the offense should only get better, while at worst being only as good.

The Dallas Cowboys’ front seven is stacked. This is why there can be no excuses this year from America’s Team

While they may also have some adjusting to do on the offensive line with Travis Frederick’s retirement, the guy they brought into the fold in Tyler Biadasz, was not only a steal of a get in round 4 but also a consensus All-American this past season at Wisconsin. A mauler if there ever was one, here’s something of note that Pro Football Focus had about one of the most “accomplished” “run-blocking centers they’ve “ever graded”.

To look even deeper at the defense behind this daunting front seven though, yes, they lost Byron Jones but they added a piece or two in the draft, have good stuff developing like the freaky Chris Westry, while they also brought in a nice veteran add-on in Ha Ha Clinton-Dix.

None of that matters though, as with a front seven as good as the one that they have, opposing quarterbacks shouldn’t have more than a few seconds to get rid of it, thus limiting the amount of dependence you have on the defensive backs to cover. Basically, it shortens the windows, which is oftentimes what separates good defensive backs from the rest, how long they can stay attached to a guy.

Once you think about all that together, the Cowboys really don’t have any excuses heading into this season. Even without supremely talented defensive backs last season (yes, that includes the overhyped and overpaid Byron Jones who by some miracle got it from someone else), the Dallas Cowboys would have been much better by being able to consistently get pressure on the quarterback from multiple angles or people.

At times, it seemed like it was just Robert Quinn out there, until Michael Bennett came in and began to make a play or two from the inside position. Tank has to be better this season as well, let’s not forget that but as mentioned throughout, with all the talent around him he better.

dark. Next. The Dallas Cowboys are the university of what position?

So, all in all, that’s why no reasoning will do, there can be none. The Dallas Cowboys have an elite offense, if they are even close to last season and that’s without a ton of Ezekiel Elliott rushing, and with this improved of a defense, they better be worth the hype.
