With training camp just starting, here are the three biggest questions for the Dallas Cowboys in 2020.

Football is back. I say this, of course, with a heavy dose of cautious optimism. With a global pandemic having different plans for all of us at a moment’s notice, the Dallas Cowboys, nor any other NFL team is immune.

For now, however, it appears that everything is line to go as close to normal as possible. As such, all systems are a go as the Dallas Cowboys have their league-mandated 80 players assembled to gear up for the 2020 season.

It would not be a training camp if there weren’t questions heading into it. Per usual, the Dallas Cowboys look good on paper. The perennial contenders before there is ever an official snap once again should be in the mix for a championship.

Still, there are three big questions that stand out to me that will likely determine the success of the season. Let’s take a look at the biggest queries of the 2020 Dallas Cowboys training camp.

Who will be the Dallas Cowboys’ starting center?

The offense is loaded. If everyone stays healthy and is available for all sixteen games, this team could easily threaten the franchise high of 479 points. They could even make a run at the league-high currently held by the 2013 Denver Broncos of 606 points if everything goes right.

Part of that process will be the offensive line, specifically the center position. Just as the pandemic was hitting its stride, long-time starter Travis Frederick announced he was retiring from the NFL. In just six seasons of play, Frederick was absolutely dominant. Making five Pro Bowl squads and being named an All-Pro in 2016, Frederick could have been on his way to a Hall of Fame career.

Now? The Dallas Cowboys will have a three-way battle to find his replacement. The leader in the clubhouse is Frederick’s 2018 replacement, Joe Looney. Looney did a pretty good job, all things considered, but Dallas won’t be just handing him the job. Last year’s third-round pick Connor McGovern and this year’s fourth-round selection, Tyler Biadasz, will also be in the mix.

With no preseason games slated for action, it may be hard for the two young guys to be truly evaluated. Whoever gets the nod better be ready to rock though. The only thing that can likely stop this offense is how the starter at this position performs.
