Despite the Dallas Cowboys having a talented roster, there are always upgrades that can be made

The 2020 season has already been full of change for the Dallas Cowboys. At the top of that list is the head coaching position. Gone is Jason Garrett. Hello Mike McCarthy.

The former Super Bowl-winning head coach of the Green Bay Packers assumes the helm of America’s Team amidst one of the strangest and most unpredictable times in NFL history. That, of course, due to a worldwide pandemic that has forced offseason activities to go entirely virtual.

Not only is the head coach new in Dallas, but so is much of his coaching staff. Especially on the defensive side of the ball. Gone is Rod Marinelli. Hello Mike Nolan.

With Nolan now the defensive coordinator in Dallas, the Cowboys are expected to be more creative in their formations with a bigger focus on getting takeaways. The latter being something the previous regime struggle with for years.

But a new scheme also means a need for some new players. And Dallas chose to bulk up the interior of their defensive line this offseason adding former Pro Bowl defensive tackles in Gerald McCoy and Dontari Poe.

Free agency losses also forced the team’s hand to replace players like cornerback Byron Jones, defensive end Robert Quinn, safety Jeff Heath, and others. So the Cowboys brought in defensive end Aldon Smith, safety Ha Ha Clinton-Dix, and drafted rookie cornerbacks Trevon Diggs and Reggie Robinson II.

But the Cowboys aren’t necessarily done addressing their roster needs as player acquisition is 365 days a year.  And there are some bargains to be had in free agency right now with most teams looking to cut players rather than sign them. Here are three available and potentially inexpensive free agents we believe could help the Cowboys in 2020.
