Dallas Cowboys: The most impactful newcomer in 2020
The Pick
It simply came down to two players for me as the pick for who will become the most impactful newcomer for the 2020 Dallas Cowboys. Either wide receiver CeeDee Lamb or defensive tackle Gerald McCoy. Which is probably no surprise to most.
Between the two my vote would be for McCoy mainly because the offense has a lot of mouths to feed with one of, if not the most talented offenses in football. I am just not sure how many opportunities Lamb will get.
Adding Lamb to the mix of this deadly offensive attack is going to be a nightmare for defensive coordinators because it’s almost impossible to now double wide receiver Amari Cooper with both Lamb and Gallup on the field. So, pick your poison defense! And that’s not including runningbacks Ezekiel Elliott, Tony Pollard, and tight end Blake Jarwin.
Again, for me, I think it comes down to McCoy getting more opportunities to make plays. He is quickly going to improve the interior of the defensive front. A very sound, fundamental player who will make plays in the backfield in both the run game and pass game.
The biggest issue for Dallas last year wasn’t offensively, but both defense and special teams. McCoy’s most important attribute for this season will come in the form of making everyone around him better, primarily Lawrence.
McCoy will provide a pass rush that will make the secondary better by creating a push in the interior of the pocket. He will disrupt the run game, which will also make the linebackers better. His overall style of play will bold well with defensive coordinator Mike Nolan.
A disruptive interior force can elevate a defense overall game and by no means are we going to see the McCoy from several years ago who can completely take over a game, but he will have an impact every Sunday in a positive fashion.
