What position should the Dallas Cowboys improve next year?
One way for the Dallas Cowboys to get better is by adding youth to this position
Fixing positional needs is a great way for any team to become better. The Dallas Cowboys sure have their positional need.
The best way to shore up a positional need is through drafting prospects and developing them, or by signing free agents. Now, which position should they be looking at?
To have a successful sports franchise, you need to have as many great players as possible that can play together. It also helps to have a mix of younger players on cheaper contracts, backed by proven veterans.
Heading into the 2019 season, there was a ton of talk about the Cowboys defensive line. Going into the 2020 season, it was the defensive line along with defensive backs.
Through the draft and free agency, the Dallas Cowboys did a good job of signing and drafting players to address both positions. They signed three starting players and drafted four players to help address these needs.
For now, Dallas is looking solid all around, aside from a number one cornerback and a proven tight end. Now you’re probably wondering where I’m going with this.
The Dallas Cowboys need to extend their Super Bowl window
While the Cowboys are looking very good for this season, they need to look long term. For long term solutions, you need to grab young players, which can be done in free agency but more so in the NFL Draft.
The defensive line of the Dallas Cowboys could use some youth to ensure success over a longer period. They do have some young players on their roster, but they may need some more because of how important it is to have a dominant defensive line.
Dallas did add two young players in Neville Gallimore and Bradlee Anae in the 2020 draft, and they still have 2019 second-round pick Trysten Hill. I would think more pieces will be needed, especially with two (soon to be three) starters being 30+ years old, and one depth player being 30-years-old.

You can also note that star defensive end, DeMarcus Lawrence, is 28-years-old. Most non-quarterbacks at least start to decline once they reach the 30-year-old mark. That’s not to say that is sure to happen to Lawrence or the others, but it’s something to keep in mind.
In having the young players on the roster, you have able players that can sub in, and learn from the veteran presence. For a position that is primarily responsible for pressuring the opposing quarterback and help stop the run, you can’t afford to have sub-par players.
At the 2021 NFL Draft or through undrafted free agents, the Dallas Cowboys must add some youth to their defensive line. That will be key to immediate and long term success.
