Expectations are high for the Dallas Cowboys heading into the 2020 season. They have arguably their most talented offense in decades.

Despite the Dallas Cowboys finishing the 2019 NFL season with an 8-8 record, one bright spot on the team was their offensive numbers. The team finished the season with the number one ranked offense in the league, leading the league in total yards with 6,904, and averaging 431.5 yards per game, also the most in the league.

With that being said, the Cowboys still managed to improve their offense from last season, building what is possibly the best offense Dallas has seen since the 1990’s dynasty that won three Super Bowls.

The Cowboys added star collegiate wide receiver, CeeDee Lamb, from Oklahoma with the 17th pick in the 2020 NFL draft. While Lamb had been discussed by Cowboys fans and media as a hopeful “what-if” scenario, there was very little belief around the league he would be there at pick 17.

However, Lamb managed to slide to pick 17, and while the Cowboys received trade offers for the pick, they could not pass on the wide-out, who the front office claimed they had ranked 6th on their overall draft board.

The team is adding Lamb to a wide receiver corps that had two thousand-yard receivers last year in Amari Cooper and Michael Gallup. It is not often that a player with as much talent as Lamb opens up the season as the third option on their team.

While losing fan-favorite tight end Jason Witten in free agency, the team will rely on tight end Blake Jarwin to fill the void. Jarwin should add more speed and explosiveness to the tight end position, giving quarterback Dak Prescott a plethora of vertical targets down the field.

Adding in the Dallas Cowboys run game

With the Cowboys having such an explosive wide receiving cast, it is easy to forget the driving force that runs this offense, running back Ezekiel Elliott. Elliott finished with 1,357 rushing yards and 12 rushing touchdowns, despite missing the majority of training camp due to a contract holdout. Elliott should have no problem hitting his stride early in the 2020 season, as he shares reps with explosive backup Tony Pollard who should only be improving with more experience.

Arguably the biggest loss the Cowboys faced this free agency was center Travis Frederick. Frederick was a consistent anchor in the middle, always holding the offensive line steady and consistent in the middle. However, backup center Joe Looney is capable of relieving the damage done by Frederick’s early retirement.

Cowboys fans should be excited to see this offense in action in the 2020 season. They added arguably the best receiver in the draft, as well as replacing former head coach Jason Garrett with current head coach Mike McCarthy. Given the abundance of talent, if the Cowboys offense can hit their stride early in the season, the Cowboys should be doing big things in the 2020 season.
