Here’s our best guess of three Dallas Cowboys whose production will jump in 2020

Entering the 2020 NFL regular season, there’s nothing but lingering questions to be answered as a worldwide pandemic has turned the Dallas Cowboys and every other team’s offseason training programs on their heads. Despite those obstacles, there’s still hope that some version of professional football is put on display by September.

If so, we believe there are Cowboy players who could actually see a jump in production over last year despite the setbacks. Here are our three best guesses of who those players might be …

Blake Jarwin, TE

With the exodus of longtime tight end Jason Witten via free agency this offseason, Blake Jarwin has ascended to the starting role in Dallas. And the fact the Cowboys gave Jarwin a new four-year contract to boot only further cements him as the team’s starter for the foreseeable future.

Even with Witten atop the depth chart, Jarwin was still able to start in a career-high seven games in 2019. He posted 31 receptions for 365 yards and three touchdowns. Despite the Cowboys having many mouths to feed on offense, Jarwin could easily double his production totals from last season.

DeMarcus Lawrence, DE

After inking a massive five-year, $105 million extension last April, DeMarcus Lawrence proceeded to post his lowest sack total (5.0) since 2016. Although Lawrence’s presence allowed defensive end Robert Quinn to rack up 11.5 sacks playing opposite of him.

Lawrence has vowed that his sack totals will go back up. And we believe him. After all, this is a Pro Bowl rusher responsible for 25.0 sacks over the previous two years. And frankly, the Cowboys need Lawrence to hit double-digit sack totals in 2020 with so many questions remaining about the projected starters opposite of him.

Xavier Woods, S

Season after season, we see players entering their final contract year in Dallas put up career performances. Entering the 2020 season, there are several candidates to choose from. But our choice is safety Xavier Woods.

Woods is likely a stone-cold lock to win one of the starting safety roles as Dallas did little to upgrade the position in the offseason. So you know he’s getting the opportunities to excel. And entering his fourth year with the Cowboys, it’s time for the former sixth-rounder to take the next step in his development and prove he’s worth a long-term extension.

Xavier Woods has started 29 games over the past two years in Dallas and has seen a steady rise in both tackles and total takeaways. Currently scheduled to become a free agent next offseason, the 24-year old has a new coaching staff to impress and this season to do so. Pressure makes diamonds, right?
