1. Trevon Diggs | Alabama | Cornerback | 17th overall

This was a very intriguing first-round mock draft. Javon Kinlaw (DT) went to the Las Vegas Raiders at the 12th spot. The San Francisco 49ers jumped before the Atlanta Falcons to grab Florida cornerback, C.J. Henderson. The Falcons in return took LSU EDGE rusher K’Lavon Chaisson.

On the board, I had two clear choices: Trevon Diggs at cornerback or Xavier McKinney at safety. Between the two Alabama prospects, I chose Diggs because of the safety depth in this year’s NFL Draft class.

Besides, the Cowboys still have Ha Ha Clinton-Dix. In this mock version, Xavier McKinney continued to drop in the second round to the Chicago Bears.

Trevon Diggs stands at six-foot-two, 207 pounds. He played at Alabama for four seasons. In 2019, he earned First-Team All-SEC. Like his brother Stefon Diggs, who plays with the Buffalo Bills, Trevon has a lot of wide receiver experience. He has also taken on return duties.

At Alabama, the 21-year-old recorded 68 tackles, two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, four interceptions, one defensive score, and 17 pass deflections. In 2019 alone, he had three interceptions, 37 tackles, two fumble recoveries, and eight pass deflections. He also took six kickoff returns for 117 yards.

The Dallas Cowboys do not play the Buffalo Bills in 2020. So, the Diggs against Diggs matchup will have to wait.
