Nearing the home stretch, we make that final push towards speculating who will be the Dallas Cowboys 17th overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.

If you’re anything like me, you cannot wait for Thursday to get here. Not only do we get something close to actual real-life sports, but we also get to put mock drafts back in the closet for an entire year. As an added bonus, we get action, not just talk when it comes to the Dallas Cowboys.

For now, however, we still have two days to wait. While we anticipate and speculate who will be chosen to become the new draft class for this team, it seems like an appropriate time for one final mock draft.

Approximately five weeks ago, I promised four mocks leading up to the big day. Today, you’re getting that fourth mock.

In my first attempt, I completed a no-trade, full seven-round mock draft. My second attempt was focused on just three rounds and included trades. The third mock was a full seven-round version with trades. Today’s will, once again, be another new concept.

Once again, I decided to use Pro Football Focus’ simulator, however this time, I am looking at just the Dallas Cowboys first selection. I ran 20 different one round mock drafts.

Listed below will be the three best picks available each time with the seventeenth overall selection. (Note: if one of the three top-rated quarterbacks, happens to be available, I will note that as this would be a perfect opportunity to trade down.)

Based on that, we will determine who’s name should be turned into the Commissioner at that spot. Without any further ado, here are the results of the 20 mock drafts that were completed:

  1. Javon Kinlaw, DT – So. Carolina, A.J. Terrell, CB – Clemson, K’Lavon Chaisson, DE – LSU (QB)
  2. C.J. Henderson, CB – Florida, A.J. Terrell, CB – Clemson, K’Lavon Chaisson, DE – LSU
  3. Mekhi Becton, OT – Louisville, A.J. Terrell, CB – Clemson, K’Lavon Chaisson, DE – LSU (QB)

  5. A.J. Terrell, CB – Clemson, K’Lavon Chaisson, DE – LSU, Trevon Diggs, CB – Alabama (QB)

  8. C.J. Henderson, CB – Florida, A.J. Terrell, CB – Clemson, K’Lavon Chaisson, DE – LSU
  9. Javon Kinlaw, DT – So. Carolina, A.J. Terrell, CB – Clemson, K’Lavon Chaisson, DE – LSU (QB)
  10. Javon Kinlaw, DT – So. Carolina, A.J. Terrell, CB – Clemson, K’Lavon Chaisson, DE – LSU
  11. Javon Kinlaw, DT – So. Carolina, A.J. Terrell, CB – Clemson, K’Lavon Chaisson, DE – LSU
  12. Javon Kinlaw, DT – So. Carolina, A.J. Terrell, CB – Clemson, K’Lavon Chaisson, DE – LSU
  13. Javon Kinlaw, DT – So. Carolina, A.J. Terrell, CB – Clemson, K’Lavon Chaisson, DE – LSU
  14. C.J. Henderson, CB – Florida, A.J. Terrell, CB – Clemson, K’Lavon Chaisson, DE – LSU (QB)
  15. A.J. Terrell, CB – Clemson, K’Lavon Chaisson, DE – LSU, Trevon Diggs, CB – Alabama (QB)
  16. Javon Kinlaw, DT – So. Carolina, A.J. Terrell, CB – Clemson, K’Lavon Chaisson, DE – LSU
  17. Javon Kinlaw, DT – So. Carolina, A.J. Terrell, CB – Clemson, K’Lavon Chaisson, DE – LSU
  18. Javon Kinlaw, DT – So. Carolina, A.J. Terrell, CB – Clemson, K’Lavon Chaisson, DE – LSU (QB)
  19. Javon Kinlaw, DT – So. Carolina, A.J. Terrell, CB – Clemson, K’Lavon Chaisson, DE – LSU
  20. Henry Ruggs, III, WR – Alabama, Javon Kinlaw, DT – So. Carolina, A.J. Terrell, CB – Clemson

As you can see, there are some definite trends. In almost half of the drafts, the third-best quarterback in the draft, Oregon’s Justin Herbert, was available when the Cowboys were on the clock.

This, in my opinion, would be a dream scenario for Dallas. If Miami misses out on Alabama QB Tua Tagovailoa, they have five picks from 18th to 70th that they could offer to the Cowboys. New England, in need of a future signal-caller, has four picks between 23rd and 100th overall to offer as well.

If the three top quarterbacks are gone, it’s clear that the Dallas Cowboys are in line to get a good defensive player. Florida cornerback C.J. Henderson was only available 10 percent of the time but Clemson cover corner A.J. Terrell should be available if Dallas stays with this selection. The Cowboys should also have the option to fortify their defensive line with either a top-notch edge rusher like Chaisson or an interior presence like Kinlaw.

Based on the information above, I believe that the Dallas Cowboys would select K’Lavon Chaisson with the 17th overall pick. Feel free to leave your thoughts and opinions below.
