Dallas Cowboys mock draft: First three picks address defensive needs
By Tyrone Starr
With four picks left on the third day of the draft, here’s how the 2020 NFL Draft ended up for the Dallas Cowboys …
Javaris Davis, CB – Auburn (round 4, pick 123)
James Proche, WR – SMU (round 5, pick 164)
Khalil Davis, DT – Nebraska (round 5, pick 179)
Trey Adams, OT – Washington (round 7, pick 231)
Clearly, you can tell how invested I am in restocking the cupboard when it comes to the cornerback position. As I wrote last week, the future of this position for the Dallas Cowboys is very much in question. With the addition of Davis, Dallas should have two young and talented players on the roster for the next three seasons.
I could not pass up Proche in round five given that he posted back-to-back seasons totaling over 2,400 receiving yards and 27 touchdowns. Worst case scenario, he battles Devin Smith and Cedrick Wilson for the WR3 spot on this team. He should make the roster, however.
In Davis and Adams, the Cowboys address the trenches, gaining two players with high upside who could push for roster spots at their respective positions, which is all you can ask for this late in the draft. Both could end up on the practice squad, using 2020 to improve their bodies and be NFL ready for 2021.
