Deion Sanders, CB

Deion Sanders was and still ranks, in my opinion, as the best cornerback of all time. When the Dallas Cowboys signed him to a massive seven-year $35 million dollar contract I was ecstatic. Not only were the Dallas Cowboys getting the best player at their position but were also getting his mystical aura.

Imagine quarterbacks nowadays ignoring an entire side of the field when dropping back to pass simply because a certain player was on that side. It’s almost inconceivable that this could happen but that is exactly what was going on when primetime was at his best.

The fear of what Sanders could do with the ball in his hands also led the Cowboys to play him at wide receiver in addition to his punt return duties. His 14 interceptions in five years with Dallas is astonishing considering how very rare opponents threw in his direction.

Sanders made the Pro Bowl four times and was a three-time All Pro selection. I would also like to point out that some of his playing time was affected by the fact that he played professional baseball at the same time.
