Jay Novacek, TE

Many people do not know this but tight end Jay Novacek played for the St. Louis and Phoenix Cardinals to begin his career. He did not make his way over to the Dallas Cowboys until Head Coach Jimmy Johnson brought him over in 1990.

This is where he excelled at becoming a reliable target for then quarterback and future Hall of Famer Troy Aikman. Novacek was a lighter tight end so blocking was not a strength although he did do a good job of getting in the way of defenders on running plays.

The three-time Super Bowl champion was also a five-time Pro Bowl player and even made the All-Pro team once back in 1992. Impressive when you have so many mouths to feed on offense during that time.

Novacek was able to find the “soft spot” in the defense and that is where he found a living. A chronic lower back problem cut his career short but his six-year Cowboy stint was productive and extremely memorable.
