A.J. Terrell, CB, Clemson

Whether the defensive scheme is man or zone, A.J. Terrell fits the bill. He is exceptional in both coverages, but he seems to excel slightly more in man coverage.

A bigger corner at 6-foot-1, 190 lbs., that frame allows him to play press-man and engage wide receivers at the line of scrimmage.

One of the best attributes for Terrell is his super-quick feet. He stays low in his base and is incredibly smooth. As defensive back coaches would say, he doesn’t open up the gate and flip his hips prematurely so wide receivers can take advantage of him.

Terrell also shows great ball skills. Whether it’s man coverage, when he uses his length to his advantage or zone coverage, in which he reads the quarterbacks arm angles and eyes.

As far as the run game is concerned, Terrell isn’t afraid to stick his nose in there. Rarely do you see him miss a tackle and give up yards after the catch.

Terrell is going to have to learn how to wrap up at the next level but at the point of attack, he hits harder than he looks, which gets the job done. He recognizes quicks and screens fairly easily and sheds blocks to make immediate tackles.
