With the 232nd pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, the Dallas Cowboys select …

Michael Pinckney, Linebacker – Miami

Career Stats: 49 games played, 267 total tackles, 42 tackles for loss, 14.5 sacks, 3 interceptions, 8 passes defended

The Cowboys are in a strange position when it comes to the linebacker position they have two young and talented stars who were once thought of as one of the best tandems at the position.

But with the uncertainty surrounding the neck injury to Vander Esch last season and the Cowboys linebacker depth about to take a hit thanks to free agency, they are going to have to pick on in the draft. He won’t need to be an immediate starter but he must be ready to play if something were to happen to Vander Esch.

Pinckney can fill that role while still giving the Cowboys a possible starter in the future. With Sean Lee unsure if he will be back with the team, Pinckney can slide in at the strong-side linebacker position to give the Cowboys an extra defender against the run and blitzing linebacker against the pass.

But before he can do that he will have to carve out a role for himself on special teams so he can make the team. After that, he will be able to show off his talents and gain more playing time in games.

It will be tough for Pinckney but he has all of the tools to be a solid role player in the NFL and a key player for the Cowboys in sub-packages and special teams.
