Every year, some players step up their play. Some are expected, while some aren’t. Which Dallas Cowboys will step up this season?

This past season, the Dallas Cowboys were blessed with a great season by the newly acquired defensive end, Robert Quinn. He stepped up and had his best season since 2014.

Having players step up as Quinn did is crucial for a team’s success. With Dallas looking to get back into the playoffs, who on the Cowboys will step up this upcoming season?

DeMarcus Lawrence, DE

Defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence is an unbelievably dominant player on the Cowboys defensive line. Unfortunately for him, he didn’t have the stats to back it up this past season. His impact is more than what was shown, and stats will back up his play this season.

Having back to back seasons with single-digit sacks would surprise me. He is second-highest-paid edge rusher in the league, behind only Khalil Mack of the Chicago Bears. He has and can continue to play as one of the best in the league.

All season long, Lawrence was being double-teamed because of the respect coaches have for how good of a player he is. Now, he has a full offseason to work on getting off of double teams. To say teams won’t double team him in the future would be a lie.

Lawrence has all of the qualities you want in an edge rusher. He is fast, strong, smart and has good technique. There is no reason to believe he will not have a bounce-back season statistically.

As far as impact, I expect Lawrence to play just as good as usual. Statistically, he should take a step up in comparison to this past 5.0 sack season.
