Dallas Cowboys: 6 moves the team must make this offseason

A new era of football has officially begun for the Dallas Cowboys. Here are six tasks Dallas needs to address during the 2020 offseason to become a contender.

For the first time in a longtime Dallas Cowboys fans should be overly excited for the offseason. With the hiring of newly acquired head coach Mike McCarthy, a new era begins in Big D.

We’ve already noticed McCarthy picking his own staff with notable unofficial hires of former Los Angeles Rams special teams coach John Fassel and New Orleans Saints linebackers coach Mike Nolan, who is set to become the Cowboys next defensive coordinator.

Once the coaching staff is finalized it is time to get to work on this Cowboys roster. With free agency and the 2020 NFL Draft rapidly approaching I put together some key tasks the staff should focus on to make the Cowboys a contender in 2020.

1. Acquire a Safety

The Cowboys desperately need an upgrade at safety. Safety Jeff Heath is set to become a free agent and the Cowboys have been lacking a playmaker at the position.

Whether the Cowboys try to trade for New York Jets safety Jamal Adams, again or end up drafting a player in the first round such as LSU safety Grant Delpit something needs to be done to anchor down this secondary.

A potential name to look out for during the draft is safety Xavier McKinney from the University of Alabama. A jack of all trades type safety who can play zone, man and tackle well in the box. I am curious to see if he slips into day two and I wouldn’t mind the Cowboys taking a chance on him.

Safety has not been a position of importance under defensive coordinator Rob Marinelli and the lack of solid, consistent play in the back end has been noticeably bad year in and year out. This is the offseason to get a playmaker that can do it all for this defense.
