As Dallas Cowboys fans wait on a head coaching decision, Will McClay is getting ready for the 2020 NFL Draft. Here is my first mock of the offseason.

The Dallas Cowboys have the benefit of having a first-round selection in 2020, something they didn’t have last year after the Amari Cooper trade. Vice president of player personnel Will McClay is going to need to hit another home run with this pick.

An with his track record I do not doubt that he will, but in the meantime here is what I believe will happen in my first offseason mock draft.

With the 17th pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, the Dallas Cowboys select …

Grant Delpit, Safety – LSU

The Dallas Cowboys have been trying to cover up their need for safety help over the past few years. And while Jeff Heath has played well he isn’t working out as a starting safety. At 6-foot-3,  201-pound Delpit can come in and immediately start at the strong safety position for the Cowboys opposite free safety Xavier Woods.

He can play in both man and zone coverage schemes and is very aggressive in the running game. Having a safety tandem that can cover, stop the run and have the ability to create takeaways would be a great start to the 2020 draft.

Career Stats: 193 total tackles, 16.5 tackles for loss, 6 sacks, 8 interceptions, 24 passes defended.
