Dallas Cowboys get the win 47-16, but fail to make playoffs

The Dallas Cowboys did what they needed to do but it wouldn’t matter as the Eagles would also win. But it was nice to see the offense wake up.

With the season hanging in the balance, the Dallas Cowboys needed a win and a Philadelphia Eagles loss. So you would think the Cowboys would come out with a sense of urgency as they did against the Rams two weeks ago. Nope, they came out like they have been pretty much all season, with no energy and a three and out on their first drive of the game.

An while the offense came out stale, the defense came out and created a turnover with Jaylon Smith picking off Redskins quarterback Case Keenum. Quarterback Dak Prescott and the offense wouldn’t be able to take advantage and were forced to settle for a field goal from Kai Forbath making it a 3-0 game. The Cowboys defense on the next series would force a fumble by Washingon running back Adrian Peterson with safety Xavier Woods recovering the ball.

Once again the Cowboys offense failed to get anything going and had to kick another field goal making it a 6-0 game. The Redskins were able to get on the board after defensive end Montez Sweat forced a fumble from Prescott making it a 6-3 game. But, the Dallas Cowboys offense would finally wake up first with Prescott hitting receiver Amari Cooper on a 41-yard pass, then Prescott would find running back Ezekiel Elliott in the endzone to make it a 13-3 game.

The Dallas Cowboys defense would continue to hold up against a depleted Redskins offense allowing the Cowboys offense to score again on a 33-yard Elliott touchdown run. But, the Cowboys defense couldn’t hold the Redskins offense forever and finally allowed a touchdown towards the end of the second quarter. The Cowboys would go into the half with a 20-10 lead.

The Redskins received the ball in the second half and after a big run, they were able to creep closer to the Cowboys with another field goal making it a 20-13 game. Not to be outdone the Prescott and the Cowboys offense would drive down the field and on a pass to Michael Gallup make it a 27-13 game. The Redskins would again answer with another field goal making it 27-16.

The Cowboys offense would continue to pour on the points adding a field goal and another touchdown from Gallup to make it a 30-16. The Dallas Cowboys would go on to win this game 47-16 but it wouldn’t matter as the Eagles would also win, beating the Giants 34-17 and effectively ending their season.

Now the Cowboys likely have to figure out who their next head coach will be as well as how they will build their roster now that they are locked into the 17th overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.
