Living Up to the Hype

On paper, the defense for the Cowboys looks very good. They have stars on the defensive line, with the linebackers, and have a number one cornerback. It has been quite an underwhelming season for this group of guys.

Lining up against an inconsistent yet explosive offense had some people like me a little worried. Thankfully the Cowboys were able to minimize the Rams’ offense. They may have sat back a little too much in the fourth quarter, but held them to only 21 points that game.

Considering the Rams were a top offense last season, 21 points is a good number to hold them to. Not to mention linebacker Sean Lee stepped up once again. I still can’t believe Dallas has the linebackers that they have.

Lee had one interception, 1.0 sack, and also had four tackles. Defensive tackle Antwaun Woods also enjoyed a good game, especially in the first quarter. He had three tackles, with one of them being for a loss of yards in the first quarter.

Cornerbacks Chidobe Awuzie and Jourdan Lewis also enjoyed a good game. Lewis defended one pass and had 1.0 sack, while Awuzie had two passes defended. Both cornerbacks had six tackles with five of them being solo tackles.

The defense managed to hold star running back Todd Gurley to only 20 rushing yards and 18 receiving yards. Yes, Gurley has had an underwhelming season, but he has been picking it up lately before the Cowboys stopped him.

Tight end Tyler Higbee did have a big game, but Dallas managed to contain wide receiver, Cooper Kupp. Considering he is 11th in receiving yards and has five games of 100+ yards, it’s impressive to hold him to only 41 yards.
