Cowboys beat Rams on Sunday: Can Dallas keep it rolling?
By Jack Baker
The Dallas Cowboys came out on Sunday looking like a completely different team than we have seen in the past three weeks. How can they keep it rolling?
Well, that game went exactly how we thought it would, right? From the first snap of the game, the Dallas Cowboys came out determined and played passionate football for the first time in about a month against the Los Angeles Rams who were arguably one of the hottest teams in the NFL and playing for their postseason lives.
The Cowboys finally played a complete football game, showing the potential in all three fazes off the football game, something this Dallas team has been able to do this season.
After the spectacular catch by the future Hall of Fame tight end Jason Witten to put the Cowboys up 7-0, I can almost guarantee the entire fanbase assumed we were going to see a carbon copy of what we saw the past two weeks.
The main difference in Sunday’s contest and what we have seen in the past from the Cowboys is the defense, especially in the run game. The HotBoyz finally decided it was time to buckle up and Rams running back Todd Gurley down. Gurley, who rushed for over 120 yards in last year’s NFC Divisional round playoff, ended the game with 20 yards rushing.
Linebacker Sean Lee decided to turn back the clock to 2016 and he had himself a career day. This was the first time in Lee’s 10-year career that he recorded both an interception and a sack in the same game.
The offense got back on track after a little bit of a slump, and it is safe to say running back Ezekiel Elliott has not lost a step what so ever. The Dallas offense was clicking on all cylinders, and so was the playcalling all game long.
For me, this Dallas offense had a (potentially) season-defining drive. The Cowboys found themselves pinned on their own three-yard line with the game knotted up 14-7. What do they do?
Dallas marched right down the field with ease, with the combination of solid runs, big pass plays, critical third-down conversions, and excellent playcalling. This drive showed themselves that when they are on a roll, there is no one that can slow this offense down. No one.
The Dallas Cowboys pick themselves a huge confidence-building win on Sunday, but the season now comes down to their Week 16 matchup versus the Philadelphia Eagles. If they can keep this winning momentum rolling, the Cowboys can clinch the NFC East and become back-to-back divisional champions for the first time in 15 years. With a loss, all hell will break loose in Big D.
