The Bad

Special teams had another shaky performance. New kicker Kai Forbath sent the opening kick-off out of bounds setting up the Rams at their forty-yard line. Fortunately, the defense forced a quick punt.

The punt return team did a good job holding still when the Rams faked a fake punt on their first series. They didn’t even call a timeout as they did in the Patriots game when a non-traditional punt formation was presented.

However, later in the game, the punt return team allowed the Rams to convert a fourth down when the punter made a five-yard completion to the gunner despite two Cowboys covering the gunner.

Maybe the loudest cheers of the game occurred when Forbath made his three field goals. It had been since Week Eleven against the Lions that the Cowboys had a clean placekicking game. In his Cowboys debut, Forbath was three for three on field goals and five for five on extra points.

It was good that the run game was working well. Prescott had a few errant passes early in the game.

On the Cowboys third offensive play, Prescott had time to set his feet and fired a laser towards an open Amari Cooper. The pass was low and way in front of Cooper forcing him to layout to make a difficult catch which he could not.

Fox analyst and former Cowboys quarterback Troy Aikman was heard on the broadcast highlighting the lack of accuracy Prescott has shown since suffering a hairline fracture on his throwing hand index finger. But Dak would ultimately find a way to connect on 15 of his 23 passing attempts.
