The 7-7 Dallas Cowboys got a much needed win over the Los Angeles Rams, keeping pace with the 7-7 Philadelphia Eagles who won earlier on Sunday.

The Dallas Cowboys didn’t come out slow to begin the game against the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday afternoon. Instead, the Cowboys nearly screwed up the coin toss.

Dallas allowed the Rams to start with the ball and created a coin flip controversy when quarterback Dak Prescott failed to inform the head referee that they would defer the kickoff. That then allowed Los Angeles to receive the opening kickoff as well as potentially get the ball after halftime.

That mistake seemed to be the only one for the Cowboys as they would jump out to a 7-0 lead on the Rams after a great one-handed catch by the tight end, Jason Witten. The drive was lead by running back Ezekiel Elliott who was carving up the Rams defense. The Rams would answer with a touchdown pass from Jared Goff to running back Todd Gurley to make it a 7-7 game in the second quarter.

Dallas would then take their next possession to the house after Prescott avoided a sack in the backfield and found a wide-open Tavon Austin for a 59-yard touchdown pass. The Cowboys would add another touchdown from Elliott after a 14-play, 97-yard drive.

The story of the first half was the Cowboys defense holding the Rams defense to 117 yards passing and only four yards rushing. Veteran linebacker Sean Lee picking off Goff which helped the Cowboys go into halftime up 28-7 on the Rams after yet another Elliott touchdown.

The controversy continued but this time it worked in the Cowboys’ favor with NFL officials in New York ruling that Dallas would receive the ball to begin the second half. America’s Team would take that gift and add to their lead after newly acquired kicker Kai Forbath who made field goals from 50, 42, and 40-yards out making it 37-7 over the Rams. Running back Tony Pollard would add a late 44-yard touchdown run to make it 44-15.
