Jason Garrett has had his ups and downs with the Dallas Cowboys. With frustrations growing from fans and management, how long until he is done in Dallas?

The great relationship between Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones and head coach Jason Garrett has been well documented. For a couple of years now, fans have been very critical of Garrett’s ability to lead the Cowboys to success.

His record is 83-65, and his Cowboys have made the playoffs three times. In those three seasons, Dallas has yet to win a division playoff game. Because of that, many people are calling for a new head coach.

After a loss against the New England Patriots, Jerry Jones did not shy away from saying how he feels. When speaking to reporters after the game, Jones told USA Today something that would have many people thinking what the status of Garrett’s job would be.

"“With the makeup of this team, I shouldn’t be this frustrated.”"

Coming into the season, the Dallas Cowboys were looked at as one of the premier teams in the league. Then at a record of 6-5 with losses to underwhelming teams, it was about time Jerry made a statement.

Those that were calling for a new head coach were very happy with the statement and were looking forward to a coaching change. Their wish did not come true. Garrett would round-up his team and get ready for a Thanksgiving matchup against the Buffalo Bills

After a loss this past Thursday against the Buffalo, Jerry Jones appeared visibly frustrated. As his eyes were tearing up, Jones addressed the speculation around Jason Garrett possibly being fired via ESPN.com.

"” … I can look for ways to help our team. One of them is not a coaching change.”"

Jones ensures that everything he is doing and will continue to do is to give Dallas the best shot at winning a Super Bowl. While I wouldn’t be one to question Jones’ intentions, some of his decisions make me question how he will approach the coaching situation.

Garrett is in his last year under contract, so that is a good reason for him not being fired. This may very well be his last shot at making a playoff push with the Cowboys.

I think this is not a bad idea. Give Garrett the last shot to do something this season. If he makes a great push, then we can evaluate from there. If not, then he should be gone no matter what.

A lot of fans would be hesitant about handing Garrett a new contract, even if he takes the Cowboys deep in the playoffs. I don’t blame them after all these years of not doing all that much.

At the end of the day, Jerry Jones would need to be sure that whoever it is replacing Garrett would do a better job. It is not just about getting rid of Garrett.

Would it be someone already within the Cowboys organization or would it be someone else? That’s another question for when the season comes to an end, or if Garrett gets fired.

Playing out this season makes the most sense to me. Bringing in a new coach now will not help the team this year. My bet is the season ends as another disappointment, and Jason Garrett does not come back next season as the Dallas Cowboys will get a new head coach.
