A few observations from the Dallas Cowboys loss to the New England Patriots. There was some good, some bad and some downright ugly play.

The Dallas Cowboys lost their fifth game of the year on Sunday to the New England Patriots. Yet again, the Cowboys started the game slow with too many miscues.

The Week Twelve contest against the Patriots was like most football games with plays you loved and plays you would love to forget. Below we’ll breakdown the good, the bad, and the downright ugly of the Cowboys’ fifth loss of the season.

The Good

Moral victories don’t count for much in the NFL. In the words of Herman Edwards, you play the game to win. The Dallas defense played well enough to win the game. They held the Patriots to under 300 yards of offense.

Even better, the Patriots only scored 13 points. Normally, that would be enough to win a game but the Patriots defense held the Cowboys to only three field goals.

Digging deeper, ten of the Patriots points game on Cowboys miscues that setup the Pats offense on the plus side of the field. But this line of thinking lines up with moral victory thinking that you can find on DallasCowboys.com.

The reality for Dallas is they lost a game they had chances to win. At the end of the game, the Patriots out coached and outperformed the Cowboys to earn their tenth win of the season.

The only good for Dallas on Sunday happened before the game with the Patriots even started. The Eagles lost again to fall to 5-6 and the Cowboys still have a one game lead on their division rival.

Dallas has five games left in the regular season. Time is running out to waste opportunities to win games. Dallas missed a chance to beat a quality opponent on the road.
