Dallas Cowboys lose fight against both weather and Patriots
The Dallas Cowboys fought hard against the weather and a tough New England Patriots defense. But fall short losing 13-9 in Foxborough.
The Dallas Cowboys came into Foxborough to face the New England Patriots for a Week 12 matchup. But the Pats weren’t the Cowboys only opponent as they would also be fighting the elements.
With 37-degree weather, 15 miles per hour wind gusts and constant rain, the Cowboys knew they would a difficult time in this game. So they leaned on the running back Ezekiel Elliott to move the ball. Elliott would end the game rushing for 86 yards on 21 carries.
The Patriots had the same idea using running back Sony Michel to attack the Cowboys defense. Both game plans were working early on with both Elliott and Michal moving the ball on each team. The difference in the first half would come down to a blocked punt by the Patriots and Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott throwing an interception to cornerback Stephon Gilmore in the first quarter.
The blocked punt would lead to quarterback Tom Brady throwing a touchdown pass to rookie receiver N’Keal Harry and the interception would end up giving the Patriots a field goal. After all of that, the Cowboys would go on to kick two field goals to cut the lead to 10-6 going into halftime.
Coming out of the half the Cowboys continued to ride Elliott but also tried to get Prescott and his receivers into the game. Unfortunately, it wasn’t working as the Patriots secondary was able to lock down Amari Cooper, Michael Gallup, and Randall Cobb with some help from the wind and rain. It also affected Prescott as he was inaccurate on many of his attempts. But in the end, with the Dallas Cowboys down 13-9 the game would come down to Prescott with 2:38 left in the game.
On their own eight-yard line, Prescott would hit Cobb for 18 yards, then Gallup for another nine. The Cowboys would then have a horrible tripping call against center Travis Frederick that pushed them back 10 yards. Prescott would hit Cooper for a first down but the catch would be overturned as the ball would hit the ground upon replay. Giving the Patriots the ball inside the Cowboys 30 yard line under two minutes in the game.

The Dallas Cowboys would go on to lose this game 13-9 in part due to two awful tripping calls by the officials that brought back two first downs. But the defeat was mainly caused of the Cowboys’ inability to attack the Patriots through the air. Luckily, the Philadelphia Eagles lost to the Seattle Seahawks as well.
