Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott is having an MVP-worthy season in 2019. But according to the passer himself, only one thing really matters.

Over the past six seasons, only quarterbacks have won the league’s top individual honor, the NFL Most Valuable Player award. In fact, since 2000, 17 passers have been named league MVP. And through 10 games so far this season, Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott appears to now be in the MVP conversation.

A fourth-round selection in the 2016 NFL Draft, Prescott already has the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year hardware in his trophy case after he usurped veteran passer Tony Romo in his first season and led America’s Team to a 13-3 record.

This year, the 26-year old quarterback has shown a new-level of command over an overhauled offense that been brilliantly orchestrated by first-year offensive coordinator Kellen Moore. The combo of Prescott and Moore has Dallas ranked first in the NFL in offense, posting an average of 444.6 yards per game.

And that’s been achieved primarily due to Prescott’s arm as the Cowboys have the league’s best passing offense, throwing for 312.7 yards through the air per contest, and scoring an average of nearly 29 points a game.

So what does Prescott think about all this award talk? Here’s what he told ESPN’s Todd Archer about the NFL MVP conversation surrounding his current play …

"“One, it’s crazy early, right? And, two … it’s winning. The only thing I care about is wins. So if that means I’m the most winningest quarterback in the league, sure, I want it. But until it means that, I don’t care. It’s something cool, right? But I want to win games and that’s the most important thing.”"

If Prescott maintains his current pace and remains healthy, he’ll end this season with somewhere close to 5,000 passing yards, 34 touchdowns, and 14 interceptions. Dak’s currently has a passer rating of 104.1 and the Cowboys sit atop the NFC East with a 6-4 record.

For comparison’s sake, last year’s league MVP, Kansas City quarterback Patrick Mahomes recorded 5,097 passing yards for 50 touchdowns, 12 interceptions, and had a 113.8 passer rating. Mahomes also led the Chiefs to a 12-4 record in 2018.

Regardless if Dak Prescott ends up winning the MVP award or not, fans of the Dallas Cowboys have to love the fact the fourth-year quarterback has only one thing on his mind. And that’s winning. If Prescott isn’t hoisting the Lombardi Trophy in February, he’ll likely view this as another lost season regardless of any personal accolades.
