The Dallas Cowboys are among the best offenses in the entire NFL. What have they done to put together such a prolific offense?

The Dallas Cowboys seem to be back on track after a rough couple of weeks. They now have a grasp on sole possession of first place in the NFC East with an undefeated record against division opponents.

Coming into the season, the Dallas defense was expected to be among the best defenses in the league after a spectacular showing in the 2018 season. What was uncertain was how the offense would look.

Heading into Week 10 of the 2019 NFL season, the Dallas Cowboys have the best offense in the NFL based on total yards of offense per game. How have they accomplished this? Balance.

The Cowboys lead the NFL in total yards per game with 436.8 per contest. This is due to a combination of balancing a high-powered rushing and passing game. Many teams excel at one or the other, but Dallas is great at both. This makes it tough for defenses to gameplan.

The Cowboys are fourth in the NFL with 287.5 yards of passing per game. Behind the arm of quarterback Dak Prescott who has thrown for 2,380 yards this season, good for eighth in the NFL, defenses are getting torched. It helps that Dallas has one of the best wide receivers in the NFL in Amari Cooper who has 701 receiving yards and six touchdowns, ninth and third in the NFL respectively in those categories.

Another young receiver, Michael Gallup, is also having a breakout season with 452 yards and two touchdowns in just six games. This puts him at 15th in the NFL with 75.7 yards per game. On the season, Prescott has the seventh most passing touchdowns in the league with 15.

Not only does Dallas have an explosive passing game, but they are also one of the best rushing teams in the league behind All-Pro running back Ezekiel Elliott. He has led the NFL in rushing yards in two of his first three NFL seasons. Although he is having somewhat of a down season, he is still seventh in the league in rushing yards with 741 and sixth in rushing touchdowns with six.

Rookie running back Tony Pollard backs up Elliott and has been solid with 230 rushing yards and 1 touchdown as well. Dak Prescott is also among the best running quarterbacks in the NFL, making the Cowboys rushing attack even more difficult for defenses to manage. He has 175 rushing yards on the season which is seventh among quarterbacks.

He is most effective in the red zone where he has three rushing touchdowns which is fifth among quarterbacks and 23rd among all players in the league. Overall, the Cowboys are fourth in the NFL with 149.2 rushing yards per contest.
