The Dallas Cowboys look like weeks 1-3 version in SNF drubbing
The Dallas Cowboys needed a win in the worst way after dropping three straight. They came into Sunday not only desperate, but ticked off, and it showed.
The Dallas Cowboys lost to the New York Jets on last Sunday. Early in the season as it may have been, it was a rock bottom moment for the Dallas Cowboys.
However, and because again it is still early in the season, it was an opportunity for the Dallas Cowboys to look themselves in the mirror. Whatever they saw in the reflection that stared back at them when they looked would either make or break the rest of their season. Based on what we saw on Sunday night, they didn’t see themselves quitting.
The Defense set the tone early. While the defense has begun to fix their overall issues with turning over the opposing offense as a whole this season, they hadn’t really been the same ball snatching defense over the past few weeks. These were also the weeks covering the three-game losing streak, coincidentally or not.
In any event, the Dallas Cowboys defense managed to force more turnovers within the first 10 minutes of the game than they had over the past two weeks. After putting up points on their very first drive, off a forced turnover of the fumbled variety, they force another fumble which also led to a Cowboys’ touchdown.
That was the beginning of what would be a long night for Carson Wentz and his Philadelphia Eagles. To be frank, it was never really that close. The closest point of the game was when the score was 14-7 for a period in the second quarter, but it was mostly Cowboys after that, with Dallas closing the half up 27-7 off of a 63 yard Brett Maher field goal.
It was much of the same in the second half, with Philadelphia never being able to gain any footing after allowing Dallas to get out to such a hot start. The final score was 37-10.
The big stars of the game were the Dallas Cowboys defensive front. They were monsters. Robert Quinn was a manchild, as he has been in almost every game he’s played in since joining the Cowboys.
Tank Lawrence played like a man that was ticked off, which he probably was. After Eagles coach Doug Pederson practically guaranteed a win against the Cowboys, Lawrence had a few words in response to Pederson’s claim. Basically, the Philadelphia coach wrote a check that his team just couldn’t cash.
The Offense was really clicking tonight too! Amari Cooper was back healthy, making a few nifty moves throughout the game, while the running game got it going as well. Dak Prescott had his moments, such as scoring a rushing touchdown, while Tony Pollard had a few nice runs in complement to Zeke Elliott and his 111 yards on the ground.
What especially helped the offense, running game, and the entire team as a whole was health. This team was as fully healthy on Sunday night as they have been over the past few weeks, again coincidentally or not, aligning with the three-game losing streak. While we can’t jump to any conclusions based on one win in the last four weeks, it is good to be able to think that this is what the Cowboys really are when fully healthy.
Kellen Moore looked like a genius again on Sunday night. The defense looked like the defense that dominated games last season. Dak Prescott looked like the quarterback from the first three weeks of this season again.
While the defense played great, there were a few negatives in terms of injuries. Robert Quinn didn’t play in the second half due to injury, while Leighton Vander Esch also missed most, if not all, of the second half with a neck injury. Hopefully, these aren’t injuries that linger and stretch too far into the future.
Speaking of the future, the Dallas Cowboys will be heading into their bye this upcoming week. They will return on Monday, November 4th for a Monday Night Football matchup with the New York Giants. Hopefully, this was the Dallas Cowboys getting themselves back on track.
This win not only helps to ease the pain of the prior three-game losing streak for the team, but it should also encourage them on the front of being that much more in the lead in the NFC East division. Again, while this is only one game, it is a great and encouraging sign to see them come out and respond in this fashion, against a divisional foe and after being so personally challenged by the opposing head coach.
This was a good win and they needed it. It is just the beginning of the rest of the year though, but this was a good way to kick it off, while also getting off the schneid of the last few weeks.
