In Week 7, the Dallas Cowboys play a division rival in the Philadelphia Eagles. What are some stories surrounding this matchup on Sunday?

Watching a division game is always very entertaining. This Sunday night, the Dallas Cowboys are lining up against the Philadelphia Eagles in what looks like a must-win game for both teams.

There is more to look forward to than just the game itself though. What stories can we look forward to leading up to this matchup? Here are three I’ll be following …

Quarterback Battle

This is not only a matchup of Dallas versus Philadelphia but also a quarterback matchup of Dak Prescott versus Carson Wentz. Wentz is looking to prove he is worth his new contract, while Dak is trying to earn his.

This past offseason, Wentz was given a four-year, $128 million extension. This makes Wentz the fifth highest-paid player in the league. Dak Prescott has not yet signed an extension.

There have been debates as to if Prescott deserves more money than Wentz. Common reasons that Dak deserves more are because Prescott has achieved more, and Wentz has had injury problems.

Arguments on why Prescott doesn’t deserve more, are usually based on Wentz’s play while he is healthy. By a per game average, Wentz does edge Prescott in most passing stats other than interceptions which is worse by 0.1.

So far in their careers, they have played each other four times, with Prescott winning three of the games. There were two occasions where Dallas and Philly played, but Dak or Wentz did not play that game.

One game was back in 2017 when Wentz was injured. The other was in 2016 when the Cowboys had quarterback Mark Sanchez play the majority of the game in Week 17.

Playoff Contention

Both the Cowboys and the Eagles have a record of 3-3. Whoever ends up with the win would take the lead of the division. Whoever loses could have the New York Giants tied with them if they win this week for the second spot in the division.

Both the Cowboys and Eagles are looking to make a push in the playoffs this year, so a loss to either team would be devastating. With the NFC containing a lot of competition, claiming a Wild Card spot would be difficult for both teams.

Cowboys in the Rough

The Dallas Cowboys have just lost three straight games, most recently losing to the New York Jets. They have not looked all that great, although they do have some reasons for that. Dallas’ offense has looked very inconsistent showing flashes of stardom and complete confusion.

Dallas has been struck by an injury bug to key players on their offense. This includes tackles Tyron Smith and La’el Collins, and wide receivers Michael Gallup and Amari Cooper. Dallas is going to need to push through these injuries to get the job done.

The loss against the Jets needs to be a wake-up call. The matchup this Sunday is not an easy one, so Dallas must be ready to have a bounce-back game. This game is going to be primetime, so everyone is watching. The Cowboys really need to step up, and they very well can.
