Kris Richard – Passing Game Coordinator/ Defensive Backs Coach

The Cowboys defacto defensive coordinator, Kris Richard was a hot name throughout the coaching carousel last year. But the former Seattle Seahawks defensive coordinator who was at the very heart of the Legion of Boom during it’s prime elected to stay in Dallas, and in partnership with longtime defensive coordinator Rod Marinelli.

It can not be understated how important the relationship between Marinelli and Richard has been. But the fact the hot head coaching candidate elected to stay with the Cowboys for another season in the same role speaks volumes. Perhaps Richard could see the writing on the wall.

The fiery coach is certainly in perfect position to assume the interim head coach job if there is suddenly a vacancy this season. And Richard’s aggressive coaching style might be the exact thing this lifeless, but uber-talented roster needs right now.

Whether the Cowboys’ brass agrees about Richard’s potential in Dallas is yet to be seen. But the surprising regression of the defense this season certainly doesn’t help Richard’s case. But his resume will likely allow him to become an NFL head coach somewhere next season. Why not Dallas?
