Previewing the Jets

The Cowboys will likely be without offensive-tackle Tyron Smith, as expected, but the Jets don’t offer much on defense to be concerned with. The Cowboys will want to set the tone early in this game, something they have struggled to do all season.

Scoring first is the key, Dallas has struggled badly with getting off to fast starts and has played from behind in every game thus far except Week 3 against the Miami Dolphins.

The Jets will be getting franchise quarterback Sam Darnold back for the game. Darnold has missed the previous 4 weeks with mononucleosis. Darnold will be coming back into a desperate situation in New York. The Jets have lost every game so far this year, most of them haven’t been close games.

The offense lacks weapons besides star running-back Le’Veon Bell. Bell has been the lone workhorse on an offense without wideout any true threats. The Jets offense averages an abysmal 9.8 points per game, which is 31st in the NFL. The offense averages 179 yards a game, worst in the NFL. The passing attack, mostly without Darnold, only averages 113 passing yards a game, also worst in the league.

Even Bell has been largely held in check on the ground, as the team averages 66 rushing yards, good for 30th. All of this is largely thanks to the offensive line, considered by many to be one of, if not the, worst offensive lines in the NFL.

The defense hasn’t been great either, giving up 25 points per game so far through four weeks, which is 25th in the NFL. The defense is lead by 3rd-year safety Jamal Adams. Adams has made an impression in New York as a hard worker who’s determined to lead the turnaround to lead the Jets back to the playoffs. It’s clear that regardless of the team’s struggles, the players around Adams look to him as the leader in the secondary.
