After posting a season-low rushing yard total against the Saints in the Big Easy, the Dallas Cowboys are primed to have a bounce-back performance.

45 yards. That’s how many total rushing yards the Dallas Cowboys had last Sunday night against the New Orleans Saints. It also happened to be the Cowboys’ first loss of the young season. And that doesn’t appear to be a coincidence.

Through their first three games of the 2019 regular season, all of which being wins, the Cowboys never posted less than 89 rushing yards in a single contest. And that was in Week One, a 35-17 victory over the New York Giants. Fortunately, Dallas was also able to put up a season-high 319 passing yards to secure the divisional win against the G-Men.

In Weeks Two and Three, the Cowboys’ rushing offense was able to record over 200 yards on the ground against both the Washington Redskins and the Miami Dolphins. Yet, Dallas ran into a wall against New Orleans. But that should not be the case against the porous Green Bay Packers this week.

The Packers possess the 26th worst rushing defense in the NFL going into Sunday’s matchup at AT&T Stadium. Green Bay has allowed an average of 142.3 rushing yards per contest to opposing offenses through four games so far this season.

Outside of the Minnesota Vikings, none of the teams the Packers have faced this season possess prolific running backs. Those other three franchises being the Denver Broncos, the Chicago Bears, and the Philadelphia Eagles.

Despite their defense’s proclivity for giving up big yardage on the ground, the Packers were still undefeated going into their Week Four matchup against the Eagles last week. Of course, Green Bay also hasn’t played a single game outside the confines of Lambeau since the season opener.

This matchup bodes well for the Dallas Cowboys’ double-headed rushing monster in running back Ezekiel Elliott and rookie Tony Pollard. In the Cowboys’ previous contest against the Packers (2017, Week Five), Elliott rushed for 116 yards on 26 carries in Arlington.

During his rookie season (2016), Zeke posted 157 yards on 28 attempts during a Week Six game against the Cheese-heads at Lambeau Field. Later that same season, Elliott had 22 carries for 125 yards in a playoff loss to Green Bay in the Divisional round.
