Cowboys at Saints: 3 players to watch Sunday night
The Dallas Cowboys will take their unbeaten record into the Superdome to play the New Orleans Saints Sunday night. Here are three players to watch.
The Dallas Cowboys are on a roll, having won their first three games of the new season. Now, they take their spotless record to The Big Easy to play the Drew Brees-less New Orleans Saints in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome on Sunday Night Football.
Although the Cowboys are favored in this matchup, the Saints will be Dallas’ biggest challenge so far as New Orleans still possess several high-profile players like running back Alvin Kamara, cornerback Marshon Lattimore and wide receiver Michael Thomas that can deal some serious damage.
That being said, here are three Cowboys’ players we believe could post a great performance in New Orleans in primetime …
Dak Prescott, QB
Prescott posted the second 400+ passing yard game of his four-year career against the New York Giants in Week One. But he’s been unable to break the 300-yard mark since. Prescott might have a good chance to his 400 again against a Saints’ defense that allowed the Seattle Seahawks to put up 406 passing yards and a combined 514 offensive yards in Week Three.
Leighton Vander Esch, LB
Stopping Alvin Kamara is going to be job number one against the Saints’ explosive offense. So an emphasis has been placed on tackling this week. Dallas’ number one weapon to stop Kamara, fellow running back Latavius Murray and the all-purpose Taysom Hill will be the Cowboys’ elite linebacker corps led by Vander Esch and Jaylon Smith.
The duo of Vander Esch and Smith racked up a combined 19 total tackles against the Saints the last time these two teams met, limiting Kamara to 36 rushing yards and 36 receiving yards.
Tony Pollard, RB
After being a non-factor during his first two games of the season, rookie running back Tony Pollard exploded for 103 rushing yards and his first NFL touchdown last weekend against the Miami Dolphins. While everyone knows Ezekiel Elliott will get his, the one-two punch of Zeke and Pollard combined with an improved passing game under new offensive coordinator Kellen Moore makes Dallas’ offense nearly unstoppable.
