Dallas Cowboys: How Robert Quinn can cover up the loss of two starters
The Dallas Cowboys head into Week Three down two defensive starters. The good news though is that defensive end Robert Quinn can help cover those losses.
The Dallas Cowboys may have dodged a bullet when it comes to the injuries to players last week against the Washington Redskins. Safety Xavier Woods is dealing with an ankle injury that may keep him out for a little while and defensive tackle Antwaun Woods is dealing with a knee sprain.
While both players are out, the Cowboys get back pass rusher Robert Quinn, coming off a two-game suspension. His debut should help with two starters being sidelined. The reason I say this is because of his ability to rush the passer opposite defensive end, DeMarcus Lawrence, who has been facing double teams.
Quinn’s ability to affect the quarterback in the pocket will help safety Darian Thompson, who is making his first NFL start on Sunday. It will also affect the defensive tackle position by forcing quarterbacks to step up in the pocket and into the waiting arms of defensive tackles Maliek Collins and Christian Covington.
The only thing that can stop this from happening would be Quinn coming back rusty or out of shape. If the 29-year old can’t go for more than 50 percent of the snaps, then the Cowboys could be in trouble. Especially with Dallas releasing former first-round pick defensive end Taco Charlton earlier this week.
Lucky for the Cowboys, they are playing the tanking 0-2 Miami Dolphins at AT&T Stadium on Sunday. You can bet that Quinn is going to come out ready to stick it to his former team after they traded him away during the offseason.
Since the Dolphins traded away their best offensive lineman, Laremy Tunsil, to the Houston Texans, Quinn should be able to have a field day with Lawrence rushing from the opposite side.
The 2-0 Dallas Cowboys are in a good spot facing a favorable opponent in Week Three. And these injuries shouldn’t stop them from winning games thanks to the delayed debut of Robert Quinn.
