Week Two of the NFL season is here and the Dallas Cowboys travel to Washington for another divisional game. Which Dak Prescott will show up?

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott wowed the NFL world last week with his perfect passer rating, more than 400 yards passing and four touchdowns to four different receivers. First Things First talking head Nick Wright called Prescott’s performance the finest since the playoff loss to Green Bay his rookie season.

It is hard to argue with this assessment. Prescott was amazing. Flash back one season and there is a stark contrast in his Week 1 performances. Against the Carolina Panthers, Prescott threw for 170 yards with no touchdowns, one fumble and 6.0 sacks in the 16-8 loss. What a difference a year makes.

His new coaches namely offensive coordinator Kellen Moore and quarterbacks coach Jon Kitna had Prescott playing confident and poised. His decision-making was quick and his passes were significantly more accurate as evidenced by the 178 yards after the catch by the Dallas receivers.

The accolades for Prescott were plentiful. The NFL named him the NFC offensive player of the week. Maybe the highest praise was Cowboys owner Jerry Jones announcing that he felt a new contract for Prescott was imminent although he tried to walk back his statement later in the week.

The NFL is the ultimate what have you done for me lately league. The New England Patriots have practically patented the formula of immediately moving on to their next opponent.

The Dallas Cowboys want what the Patriots have – a sixth Super Bowl. While it is not possible to win the elusive championship that has frustrated the franchise and its fans for the last 24 years next week, it is an important step for the team to win a game that they are favored.

While football is a team sport, the 2019 version of the game goes through the quarterback. Dallas future fortunes will rest largely on Dak Prescott more than any other player. This is why he will soon be the highest paid Cowboy.

There is no place to go but down when your last game was a perfect passer rating. It is not reasonable to expect Prescott to duplicate his performance from last week but it will be essential that he have no fumbles or interceptions and he continues his good decision-making and not take any unnecessary sacks.
