Sky’s the limit for Dallas Cowboys with this version of Dak Prescott
It reportedly clicked for Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott towards that end of last season. And he had it all clicking on Sunday versus the Giants.
The Dallas Cowboys started their season on Sunday with their traditional opening day matchup against the New York Giants. It started kind of rough for the Cowboys as they wound up going four and out on their first drive.
This was before allowing the Giants to score a touchdown on their first drive, which was jet-fueled by a 59-yard run from Saquon Barkley. It looked like it was going to be a long day in Big D.
It wouldn’t end up being that long of a day though, as it also wasn’t that long after allowing the Giants to score their opening touchdown that the Cowboys found pay dirt themselves. The very next drive saw the Cowboys score on a 28-yard touchdown pass from Dak Prescott to tight end Blake Jarwin. That was just the beginning of the Dak Prescott Show though.
Dak Prescott was on fire Sunday against the Giants. He completed 25 of 32 passes, for 405 yards, and four touchdown passes. He completed passes to seven different receivers while throwing touchdowns to four different receivers. The touchdowns were to Amari Cooper, Randall Cobb, Blake Jarwin, and the returning Dallas Cowboys legend in tight end Jason Witten.
Dak Prescott was simply amazing. Not only did he toss it around enough to help his team dispel the Giants to a tune of 35-17, but he did so in record-breaking fashion. He not only set the Cowboys record for most passing yards in a season opener with 405 yards, but he did so while on his way to a perfect quarterback rating of 158.3.
Prescott had 300 yards passing and the four touchdown passes with almost 10 minutes left in the third quarter. This was his sixth career 300-yard passing game and second career 400-yard passing game.
Although it was against a porous Giants defense that shipped off or let go of all of it’s best players that he took advantage of on Sunday, Dak Prescott was elite. If this is the version of Dak Prescott that will be seen from now on, the sky is the limit for the Dallas Cowboys. Yes, that means Super Bowls should be in the future, even as early as this season.
Ezekiel Elliott didn’t seem rusty, although he didn’t get the same workload we have seen over the past few seasons on this particular Sunday either. This could be a function of easing him into things or the way things might be from here out with Tony Pollard in tow. The defense gave up the big play on their first drive, but they also came up with a few big stops including a forced fumble in the red zone.

If every area of the team can continue to click as they did against the Giants on Sunday, this team could be scary. The fact remains though that if Dak Prescott can consistently play at this level, the Cowboys will have a chance to win every game they play, which would blow the lid of limits that anyone wished to place on him, his ability, and the levels of success that this Cowboys team can achieve.
