Dallas Cowboys: What to expect in the regular season opener

As the Dallas Cowboys long-awaited 2019 campaign is under a week away, let’s finally look at what to expect in Week 1 vs. the New York Giants.

The Dallas Cowboys are now less than a week away from kickoff as the New York Giants head into AT&T Stadium in six days. Let us finally dive in into some meaningful football and look at what to expect on Sunday.

On the offensive side of the football, with or without Zeke, expect the passing game to outperform the running game. Yes, the Cowboys will stick with their “run-first” offensive mentality but expect the big plays to come through the passing game.

If Ezekiel Elliott is on the field, I do not see him putting up big numbers in game No. 1. Zeke usually has to run himself into shape at the beginning of the year and missing all of the offseason due to the holdout, seeing Zeke run laps around the Giants defense is not likely.

Quarterback Dak Prescott usually has his best games through the air against the Giants and that paired with an improved receiving corps is a recipe for success.

On the defensive side of the ball, I would be shocked if the Giants are able to put up at least 20 points. This Dallas defense is the real deal. A star-studded bunch with a great coach is rare in the NFL is hard to find, but you can find it in Dallas.

The Giants offense will most likely struggle all afternoon Sunday. Running back Saquon Barkley is obviously electric and will more than likely have a good game but besides #26, the Giants offense is next to nothing.

Finally, I expect a Dallas Cowboys’ victory on Sunday. There is no reason the Cowboys should lose the season opener at home versus a far less superior team. Any win in the NFL is a good win, and Dallas should be 1-0 heading into Washington.
