With Saturday being the deadline to reduce rosters to 53 men, here is the first look at the official roster and some likely tweaks as we approach Week 1.

The Dallas Cowboys 2019 roster was cut down to 53 men as of 4:00 p.m. ET on Saturday. The finality of it, however, remains fluid.

Here is what we know up to the moment. As of late Saturday night, these are the fifty-three men who have earned their Star.

Quarterbacks (2)
Dak Prescott, Cooper Rush

Running Backs (3)
Tony Pollard, Alfred Morris, Jamize Olawale

Receivers (5)
Amari Cooper, Michael Gallup, Randall Cobb, Tavon Austin, Devin Smith

Tight Ends (3)
Jason Witten, Blake Jarwin, Dalton Schultz

Offensive Line (11)
Tyron Smith, Zack Martin, Travis Frederick, Connor Williams, La’el Collins, Cameron Fleming, Joe Looney, Xavier Su’a-Filo, Adam Redmond, Connor McGovern, Brandon Knight

Defensive Line (10)
DeMarcus Lawrence, Antwaun Woods, Maliek Collins, Tyrone Crawford, Taco Charlton, Kerry Hyder, Dorance Armstrong, Joe Jackson, Christian Covington, Trysten Hill

Linebackers (6)
Leighton Vander Esch, Jaylon Smith, Sean Lee, Joe Thomas, Justin March, Luke Gifford

Cornerbacks (5)
Byron Jones, Chidobe Awuzie, Jourdan Lewis, Anthony Brown, C.J. Goodwin

Safeties (5)

Special Teams (3)
L.P. Ladouceur, Brett Maher, Chris Jones

Reserve/Did Not Report
RB – Ezekiel Elliott

Physically Unable to Perform
WR – Noah Brown

Injured Reserve
G – Cody Wichmann
WR – Jon’Vea Johnson
DE – Jalen Jelks
DT – Daniel Ross
CB – Chris Westry

Suspended
DE – Randy Gregory
DE – Robert Quinn

Here’s what we hope is true heading into practice early next week.

  • We hope that running back Ezekiel Elliott signs a contract extension, adding a fourth back, likely at the cost of Connor McGovern’s roster spot as he slides to season ending IR.
  • We hope that defensive end Randy Gregory is reinstated soon. If so, fellow pass rusher Joe Jackson may mysteriously end up with a season ending “injury.”

Here’s what we can call educated guesses in regards to the roster composition.

  • The final five guys on this team are Jackson, Knight, Devin Smith, Frazier and Morris. If someone else around the league becomes available that the Dallas Cowboys like, one of these five may not be around for long.
  • Six weeks from now, receiver Noah Brown will make his return to the team. One of those five from above will almost certainly be gone in mid-October.
  • Heading into Week 3, defensive end Robert Quinn will return from suspension. Again, one of those five from above will be looking for work.

All in all, this is a pretty deep Dallas Cowboys roster.

Players like Fleming, Looney, Redmond, Crawford and Hyder provide versatility in the trenches.

Plenty of former Pro Bowlers and All-Pro’s will be flanked by potential additions to that lofty status such as Awuzie, Jaylon Smith and Maliek Collins.

Several young players fill major roles while multiple long-time veterans provide stability to key spots on a team with championship aspirations.

Saturday got all of us one step closer to real football that matters. The 2019 Dallas Cowboys are almost complete. With a few possible tweaks, the 46 men who will suit up in Week 1 against the Giants are likely already in the building.
