Dallas Cowboys dominate Houston Texans in battle for Texas, 34-0
The Dallas Cowboys defeated the Houston Texans Saturday night at home in AT&T Stadium in their third preseason game of the year, 34-0.
The Dallas Cowboys came to play against the Houston Texans Saturday night in their third preseason contest, also known as their dress rehearsal game. Last season, the Texans were able to pick up the win over the Cowboys, 14-6. This year it was a different story as Dallas dominated the Texans, 34-0.
The offense was able to move the football without having many problems and ended the first half with a 27-0 lead over the Texans. During that half, the early standouts on offense were running back Tony Pollard and receiver Michael Gallup that carved up the Texans defense. Pollard had six carries for 26 yards averaging 4.3 per attempt. While Gallup recorded one catch for 12 yards resulting in a score.
The rest of the offense also had a lot of success against a very good Texan defense putting up 362 total yards. Wide receiver Devin Smith was targeted 10 times, bringing in a team-leading six receptions for 79-yards. Tight end Marcus Lucas had four catches for 50 yards.
While the Cowboys’ offense had success, the defense was able to hold the first and second string Texans offense to four yards through the air and 57 yards on the ground in the first half.
During that half, the standout on defense was defensive end Taco Charlton, who came out and made a statement with 2.0 sacks, two forced fumbles, and one pass defend. Fellow defensive end Kerry Hyder also had 2.0 sacks. There were a total of 8.0 sacks recorded by the Cowboys defense.
The rest of the Dallas defense was able to hold the Texans to eight first downs and 135 yards of total offense. They were also able to get four takeaways on the night. Both safeties C.J. Goodwin and rookie Donovan Wilson recorded interceptions.
Special teams for the Cowboys also showed up with a blocked punt that was recovered for a touchdown by linebacker Joe Thomas. The Cowboys also might be able to rest a little easier after kicker Brett Maher connected on all of his field goals and extra points. It was an all-around great showing for the Cowboys Saturday night.

The Dallas Cowboys came out and dominated in all phases of the game against the Houston Texans. They are showing that while they have a very talented roster and they are going to have some very tough decisions to make on both sides of the ball when it’s time to make final cuts in a week.
