Dallas Cowboys: Tony Romo talks contracts, coaching, and Tom Brady
Former Dallas Cowboys quarterback and current CBS commentator Tony Romo took some time to before the start of the season to talk with The Landry Hat.
Being the quarterback of the Dallas Cowboys is one of the rarest and most prestigious positions in all of sports. And only a handful of men have held that title successfully, with Tony Romo being one of the best.
Now one of the most successful color commentators in the sport, Romo’s predictive broadcasts have quickly become the stuff of legend. Entering his third season at CBS alongside legendary play-by-play commentator Jim Nantz, Romo took some time prior to the start of the regular season to talk with The Landry Hat’s site expert, Steven Mullenax.
SM: When you were going through contract negotiations as a quarterback, was the salary cap and the team’s ability to surround you with talented players ever a consideration?
"TR: Yeah, that’s a good question. It felt like when I was going through them it’s nothing more than just you getting paid for your production and how you are playing. I think that right now the Cowboys are in a unique position simply because they’ve drafted so well, they’ve evaluated talent, made a trade so well that they’re now in a position to have to pay these guys. But that’s really what every organization wants. You want to be in a position to cut so many guys you may not be able to keep all of them. So, the better people are playing that means you’ve done a good job stockpiling your team with talent. And right now, it’s a tough spot but a spot that you’d like to be in actually. That’s the one area that people forget. This is a good thing when you have a lot of really good players up for some contracts."
