Mike White, QB

The position battle to see who would become the primary backup quarterback to starter Dak Prescott seems all but a foregone conclusion now following two disappointing preseason performances by 2018 fifth-rounder Mike White.

Replacing Prescott after the first offensive series, White struggled to complete 7 of his 13 passes for 30 yards and threw one interception. The fact Cooper Rush entered the game after White and recorded a solid 10 of 16 for 83 yards and a score seemed to cement Rush’s place on the depth chart.

As for White, his place on the final-53 man roster in Dallas is certainly in doubt. But with two more preseason contests to go, continued poor performances by the second-year passer could make him expendable entirely.

If White is to secure a place on the practice squad, he’ll need to show some sort of improvement in the coming weeks. With final roster cuts on the horizon, it would be easy to see the Cowboys finding a recently waived quarterback to develop instead of holding on to what might just be a lost cause.
