The Dallas Cowboys are in a standoff with Ezekiel Elliott. Another back in his situation may be moved from their current team, but would Dallas move Zeke?

The Dallas Cowboys have found themselves in the middle of a good old fashion standoff with their star running back. The Cowboys seemingly will not budge away from their position, smartly so and whatever that position may be, but neither will Ezekiel Elliott.

While we asked and assumed that Ezekiel Elliott would not “pull a Melvin Gordon” sometime back, that was apparently the wrong answer. With the parallels between Elliott and Gordon in mind though, would Zeke continue to mimic the actions of Gordon?

Would Ezekiel Elliott ever request to be traded away from the Dallas Cowboys? The answer there is more than likely no. While he does some pretty questionable things off the field, he has to know better there.

This is the case for a few reasons, with the first being that the team and specifically the offensive line that has been built in Dallas is not only the best he has ever run behind, but one of the best in the entire league. There are not too many other teams in the NFL that boast the behemoths that the Cowboys have across their offensive front.

Another reason is that there are only a few teams with the brand and star power of the Dallas Cowboys. As apparent by the way he maneuvers, Zeke likes being a star in general, not just a football star. A lot of his individual celebrity and star power has everything to do with the fact that he is a great football player that just so happens to play for one of the most recognizable brands in professional sports, the Cowboys.

Whether you hate or love the fact that he enjoys being a celebrity, that is a totally different question, but they are facts. If he were to be traded to any other team his cache or clout would be lowered, while there are no more than about three of four more NFL teams that even have a level of brand recognition that remotely resembles or rivals the Cowboys. They are the main two reasons why he wouldn’t ask to be traded.

More importantly than Elliott asking to be traded though, would the Cowboys ever acquiesce to those demands of a trade if it happened? The answer is resounding no.

The Cowboys are an organization that really doesn’t knowingly give away talent. They are also somewhat of a stubborn organization. That is practically how they wound up in this scenario to begin with.

There is no way that they would move Ezekiel Elliott, one of the best running backs in the league if not the best, to watch him help another team stack up wins or dare I say to win a title. Also, with all the support Jerry Jones has shown him over his first few seasons thus far, he has a certain affinity for the runner.

While those are the main reasons that they wouldn’t trade him, they would also consider the fact that they don’t have another proven guy as of right now. In order for this team to be what they need to be and in order for Dak Prescott to be his best self as he continues to develop, he needs a solid running game that is led by a great and versatile runner like Zeke.

Jerry Jones is too smart to leave himself looking for a dynamic back, by giving away a dynamic back. That is absolutely what would be occurring because unless we were talking about a top two or three guy in another position, the value coming back would not match that value that an Ezekiel Elliott would be carrying with him to his new team. This is why the Cowboys would never considering trading Ezekiel Elliott.
