The drama surrounding a possible holdout by Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott continues as he skipped the team charter to training camp.

For those looking for some sort of resolution when it comes to the holdout situation surrounding Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott, the wait continues. In what was the first test of Elliott’s rumored holdout plans, the 23-year-old opted not to fly with the team to Oxnard, California ahead of training camp, which kicks off on Saturday.

Rumors emerged last week that Elliott was privately considering a holdout starting with training camp in pursuit of a contract extension in Dallas. That’s despite the fact he still has two years remaining on his current deal with the Cowboys.

The contract situation concerning Elliott’s future in Dallas is just one of several deals the Cowboys are expected to address soon. Both quarterback Dak Prescott and wide receiver Amari Cooper are also looking to lock up contract extensions. Neither has threatened to holdout.

Complicating Elliott’s possible holdout and contract demands are his off-the-field troubles. Zeke was suspended by the NFL for six-games in 2017 for violating the league’s personal conduct policy after allegations of domestic violence. Earlier this month, Elliott meet with NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell over an incident in Vegas involving an altercation with a security guard.

Although the league would go on to announce it will not punish Ezekiel Elliott for this latest incident, the pattern of off-the-field issues is concerning. And the timing couldn’t be worse for Elliott to be demanding a raise. Still, the path to a potential holdout is one step closer. All eyes will be on Oxnard Friday to see if Elliott decides to show up or not. The drama continues …
