The Dallas Cowboys are their own biggest hurdle to jump
The last reason is a lot simpler than the first two, or at least simpler to understand because we have watched it happen over the past few seasons. With the return of Jason Witten and the performance of the defense during last season, that does give the Cowboys two core elements that they can hang their hats on. They are a defense that has proven that it can get the big stops and a proven playmaker who can help to convert on big downs.
They must not go about their business in a manner that would have them rely on those elements too much though. While Witten is an older player, he can probably still get the job done, but that doesn’t mean that he should be put in that position all the time. With what the defense showed on last season while returning all of the key elements for this season, they can get the job done as well.
The offense and the coaches must not come to rely on them alone though. This means that unlike the past two seasons, the offense must not be so conservative with the thought that Witten or the defense will bail them out when need be.
While the defense and Witten are necessary and nice luxuries to have, the offense must compliment Witten while also being a complementary element as a whole to the defense. This would help them to not dig themselves in that hole that we mentioned earlier.
The Dallas Cowboys should have a very good year, but they will only go as far as they can go if they focus on the goals and tasks at hand. If they allow unnecessary elements to creep in, it could be another long year. These were the reasons why the Cowboys are their own biggest hurdles to jump when thinking about achieving their ultimate goals.
