Dallas Cowboys training camp: Questions about the defense
The Dallas Cowboys defense was a force to be reckoned with last season. But questions about the defense still remain heading into training camp.
Last season the Dallas Cowboys defense surprised many with there success and ending the season as a top-10 defense. With that said the Cowboys defense finished the season with a pitiful performance against the Los Angeles Rams in the playoffs. Now they have questions looming over them going into training camp that need to be answered.
First, who is going to become the start strong safety for the Dallas Cowboys? Jeff Heath has manned the position for the last two season but now with the signing of George Iloka will that change? The Cowboys must decide who will become the starting safety and let that person get the first team snaps before the season begins.
Next, how will the defensive tackles come back after giving up 273 rushing yards to the Rams in the playoffs, effectively ending there season. Over the past few seasons that has been a strength for the Cowboys but at the end of the season they didn’t show up. The Cowboys did a lot to add to their pass rush but nothing really to help stop the run.
The last question for this defense is will they be healthy by the time training camp begins? With players like Byron Jones, DeMarcus Lawrence, Taco Charlton, Antwaun Woods, and Leighton Vander Esch either recovering from surgery or nursing an injury it will be hard to see what this defense can really do. Hopefully the Cowboys can get some of these players back so they can knock the rust off before the preseason.
The Cowboys don’t have many questions on this defense but they need to find answers to these questions before or during training camp so they can prepare for the season.
