The Dallas Cowboys have never really done anything to address the backup quarterback position. Maybe it’s time that they take a look at this veteran.

We know the Dallas Cowboys coaching staff and management value a player that was drafted high but never quite panned out in the league. Players Rolando McClain and Darren McFadden who had the talent but weren’t in the right situations until landing in Dallas. Both were able to have success with the Cowboys.

Well, Geno Smith could be the next player the Cowboys could take a chance on. Smith is currently on the Seattle Seahawks and is in a battle with Paxton Lynch to back up starter Russell Wilson. There is no reason for Smith to lose out to Lynch but if he does, he could be a nice fit for the Cowboys.

Smith would give the Cowboys a back up that plays a very similar style to Cowboys starting quarterback Dak Prescott. Both have the ability to scramble out of the pocket and like to throw while on the run. So there wouldn’t be a need to completely scrap the offensive game plan if Prescott were to get injured during the season.

The other positive Smith would bring with him would be his knowledge of the game. Sitting behind both Eli Manning and Philip Rivers you have to believe that Smith picked up a few pointers and tricks from two quarterbacks have seen everything a defense can throw a quarterback in the NFL.

Now for those saying Smith isn’t any good, would you rather have Geno Smith come in as your back up when your team is down and needs to lead a two-minute drill or one of the current backups in Cooper Rush and Mike White? Because I’m not comfortable having either of them go into a game right now.

Geno Smith is a good option, who the Dallas Cowboys can get cheap. And, for once, it would show that the Cowboys are looking to solidify that position instead of hoping everything goes well. Last time that happened we got Mark Sanchez and I don’t ever want to see that happen again. Do you?
