Every season the Dallas Cowboys say that they have tremendous talent across the roster. But will the coaches finally start showing that depth this season?

The Dallas Cowboys are always saying that they have one of the most talented rosters in the NFL. While other teams may disagree, many that cover the NFL tend to agree that they have one of the youngest and talented rosters in the NFL. So why are the coaches still playing favorites and holding that talent hostage on the sidelines on game day?

The way the roster is constructed right now there is no reason for certain players to start over players that have the talent and abilities to outperform the other. A prime example would be unretired tight end Jason Witten coming back to the team and presumably starting over fellow tight end Blake Jarwin who came on strong to end the season for the Cowboys. Jarwin has earned his right to start and continue to connect with quarterback Dak Prescott.

Another position where coaches seem to be playing favorites is the safety position. Safety Jeff Heath has been on this team and started over the past few years. Showing flashes from time to time but not really dominating the position. With the signing of George Iloka and his proven ability to effect an offense, he should be taking starting reps and become the starter for the season.

Yet, reports out of the Dallas Cowboys OTAs and minicamp are that Jeff Heath is still taking the starting reps. While Iloka is taking second-team reps. If Jason Garrett and this team want to succeed they must finally acknowledge what the fans and NFL analyst notice. You can’t play favorites in sports and sit players that will give you the best chance to win a Super Bowl.

These are just two examples of how they play favorites on this team. I hope now that Jason Garrett is on the final year of his deal maybe just maybe this will change and we will get to see the true potential of this team before it’s too late.
