Is Dak Prescott the face of Dallas sports? Luka Doncic or Joey Gallo?
By Tomas Romo
With OTA’s beginning and with the NBA Finals around the corner and with baseball in full swing, it’s time to figure out which athlete is the face of Dallas.
Throughout every major sports city in the country each city is centered around one athlete who has helped define it’s city. In the Dallas-Fort Worth area the three biggest teams are the Dallas Cowboys, the Dallas Mavericks, and the Texas Rangers.
Looking across those three teams there is one athlete per team that has produced on the biggest stage as well as leading their team.
Luka Doncic
For the Mavericks it has long been Dirk Nowitzki but a passing of the torch has been made and the young superstar has taken over. Luke Doncic has taken the basketball world by storm and is the heavy favorite to win Rookie of the Year.
The 20 year-old point guard averaged 21.2 points per game as well as 6 assists and 7.8 rebounds while shooting over 42 percent from the field. Doncic was the center of the Mavs offensive production on the court and was the real reason the team had any type of success this season. He finished the season with eight triple-doubles which was tied with LeBron James for fourth most in the league.
On February 6th, Doncic recorded his third triple-double with 19 points, 10 rebounds and 11 assists in a 99–93 win over the Charlotte Hornets. This made him the youngest player in NBA history to record three triple-doubles passing Hall of Famer Magic Johnson. Doncic is one of the rising stars of the league and doesn’t look to slow down anytime soon.
Joey Gallo
Joey Gallo was a household name long before he put on a Rangers’ uniform. As a teenager scouts were fascinated by how far he could hit a baseball, he would go to Major League stadiums and would showcase his power to all parts of the field.
Swing after swing the ball would fly off his bat and everyone knew he would be special. So far Gallo is off to a hot start batting .293 with 15 HR’s and 35 RBI’s. He made news a couple of weeks ago after hitting his 100th career home run before hitting his 100th single.
A fascinating feat for the 25 year-old outfielder, Gallo has continued to showcase his power at the big league level. While the Rangers are far from making the playoffs anytime soon Gallo has been the bright spot for the team and has given Rangers fans a superstar to root for every game.
Dak Prescott
Everything is bigger in Texas and the Dallas Cowboys quarterback has proven he can win on the biggest stage. Prescott is one of the top quarterbacks in the league and recently led the Cowboys to their second division win in three years.
The two-time Pro Bowler and Rookie of the Year has shown leadership on and off the field. On the field he is a true leader and his teammates gravitate towards him, off the field he has shown he is even a better person.
Through his foundation called Faith, Fight, Finish is focused on empowering individuals and families within the community. The organization is centered around fighting cancer and offering assistance to those facing life-challenging hardships.
Prescott’s foundation was founded for his late mother, Peggy, who died of breast cancer. He has consistently given her the glory for always inspiring him to be the best person on and off the field.
The winner is…
The Dallas Cowboys are one of the biggest franchises in the sports industry and Dak Prescott is always at the center. The people of Dallas rally behind the Cowboys and Prescott. He is the face of the Dallas sports world, he continues to excel at a high level on the field as well as off the field. Prescott is an inspiration to people and looks to prove his doubters wrong next season.
