The Dallas Cowboys have made strategic moves this offseason in order to take the next step to help achieve the ultimate goal. What do these moves tell us?

The Dallas Cowboys organization made some tremendous acquisitions in 2018, whether that was through trades, free agency or the draft. In the end, the moves that were made were not enough for Dallas to claim their sixth Lombardi Trophy.

Even though it took a little while to get the ball rolling, the Cowboys’ front office has had a busy offseason so far. What can we as fans take away from what we have seen so far in 2019? Here are my three things …

The defense was not enough

The most pleasant of surprises from 2018 was undoubtedly the Cowboys’ defense. With defensive minds Rod Marinelli and Kris Richard leading the way, they were able to get everything and more from their players last season.

Acquiring defensive end Robert Quinn through a trade and drafting defensive tackle Trysten Hill in the second round, it is easy to say the Cowboys’ front office realized the defense, especially the front seven, needed an injection of talent. As great as the Hot Boyz were in 2018, expect them to be even better in 2019.

This is Dak’s Team

Whether you like it or not, the Cowboys’ signal caller will be Dak Prescott for a long time. The extension talks are in full swing at the moment and I believe we can expect a number around $30 million a year. Not necessarily because Dak deserves it, but because he is the next quarterback to be paid.

Despite the contract talks, the Cowboys have done everything they can to help Prescott improve. The upgrade in the slot from Cole Beasley to Randall Cobb, along with drafting another weapon in running back Tony Pollard shows that the Cowboys management is totally invested in No. 4. And don’t forget the addition of Jon Kitna as quarterback coach.

Jeff Heath’s still in play

The most surprising thing I have learned this offseason is that safety Jeff Heath will still see playing time at safety. After yet another shaky year, the Cowboys decided to stick with the pride of Saginaw Valley State University.

Dallas has turned away from many proven veterans in free agency, partially due to their contracts. On top of that, they surprisingly did not take a safety with their first few draft picks and waited until the sixth round to grab Texas A&M’s Donovan Wilson.

Next. The all-time best defenders to wear the Star. dark

The position of safety, one that everybody knew needed an upgrade, did not get the boost it required this offseason. That’s in part due to the faith the Dallas Cowboys have in Jeff Heath.  Hopefully, Heath can prove us all wrong.
